صَرَف is this week’s Lebanese Arabic Word of the Week

صَرَف is a verb that means to fire someone, to spend money, to exchange money into small bills or into a foreign currency. Here is how it is conjugated:

بيُصرُف، عم يُصرُف، رح يُصرُف، صارف

صرفو جارنا من شغلُه
Sarafo jaarna min shighlo.
They fired our neighbor (from his work).

لمّا منروح ع السّوبرماركت منُصرُف كتير مَصاري
lamma minruu7 3assupermarket, mnoSrof ktiir maSaareh.
When we go to the supermarket, we spend a lot of money.
